Countdown to Christmas!

Written by lam0beaner

Starting the big 10 countdown to Christmas

Christmas chocolates

I’ve been out all day running Christmas errands. I picked up the batch of chocolate rum cherries from the local confectioner among other things. Tonight we will be getting together with friends to see the MIS Christmas light display. It’s hard to believe that we will soon begin the 10-day countdown to Christmas!

While I add to my posts I am listening to the Christmas Blues on Pandora. Usually, beginning with the first of December, I would have Christmas music blaring nonstop. The Buick has SiriusXM and they have several channels devoted to nothing but Christmas!

Feel free to listen to some Christmas spirit while reading my post!

This year is not the same

This year I haven’t had the music blaring. A couple of years ago I stopped decorating. It is a lot of work to put everything up – and even more to take it down. I am getting older and do not want to fiddle with it, however, I do miss it! Hearing the music gives me that Christma spirit again! I had not listened to much Christmas music until the last couple of days.

Another favorite thing used to be planting myself in front of the TV watching every Christmas movie that is broadcast. This year they even have two channels broadcasting, but I haven’t gotten into that either. Am I turning Christmas Scrooge?

Not for me!

The fall holidays are my favorite time of the year, Christmas being at the top of the list. Not because of the receiving, but due to the giving! I LOVE to give baskets to those who hold a deep place in my heart. (That is the reason for the Rum Cherrie pick up today.)

Getting ready to fill Christmas baskets
Everything is ready for the baskets!

Every year I fill baskets with trinkets obtained throughout the year, along with items I have handcrafted and baked; fruit, nuts and the coupe de grace: Rum Cherries! My husband gets in on the labor of love filling and delivering the baskets, as well as loosens his sphincter to help buy the goodies.

Right before Christmas

Usually the weekend before Christmas we will deliver the baskets to all the recipients, wish them the best of holidays and venture on to the next family. That brings with it much joy and happiness! Letting all those know that they are dear to my heart and thought about all year long.

Even tho several obstacles tried to turn it into a chore this year, all it effectively did was make the Christmas Spirit a little delayed. Time got away from me to the point we are in the final countdown; I will be rushing around to get everything done on time. I am thankful that my part-time job gave me the days to do all that I need to do without asking. God provides a way.

The reason for the season

Ultimately, I never lose track of the reason for the season, the birth of our Savior. Without the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit nothing I do would be possible or worth it. So, with this Christmas Countdown, I’m thankful and blessed for this year, my life and all those that I shared them with. And with that, I wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and Happiest of New Years!
