Once there was a big upright piano
In the living room of my grandparents’ home. I lived there all my life, and the piano was for me. I learned songs by ear and would play them with my limited knowledge of the keys. One riff after the other.
My grandmother sent me for lessons with several different people, but I didn’t gain much more musically than I already knew.
I learned mostly gospel
My grandmother loved old hymns, especially Elvis singing them. I also learned some folk music like “Blowing in the Wind”. All by ear. I really would like to learn to read music. I would like to play fluently.
I’m captivated by the piano skills of others. And it’s funny because my younger sister and I always thought it would be nice to form a sibling band. My brother plays the harmonica very well. He has sat in with bands and had people on their feet with his playing. My younger sister plays drums. Me piano, of course; I’m not sure about my older sister, she really didn’t play anything so I guess that would mean she would have to sing. Family riffs.
One time, at Chili’s 🌶 family riffs
Chili’s used to have a jingle: “Chili’s, baby back ribs…..” when my mom, brother sister and I were dining there one time we were waiting for a waitress. We broke out into that chorus: “I want my baby back, baby back, baby back……” We kicked butt on that.
It’s too bad our band didn’t work out…. oh, the cutie patootie in the picture is my younger sister. LOVE her!
