Korean Sunday!

Written by lam0beaner

I’m finally idle…

…long enough to enter a few things into this blog! I’ve been working and staying busy thus far into retirement. I’ve been able to afford things I otherwise would have had to pay off gradually; like a $1600 repair to the air conditioning lines on the Buick! Its Friday the 13th and I hope all have been as uneventful as my day was, with no bad things having happened. I have been finalizing my list for our feast on Sunday. I saw it on America’s Test Kitchen last weekend. Even though I am not into sweet and spicy, it looked good enough to give it a try! It’s “Korean Fied Chicken Wings” with a Korean rice dish.

The wings…

….turned out so crispy on the show that you could hear the crispy ness when they were tossed into the Korean coating! The active, flavorful ingredient is this stuff called “gochujang”. We had to go to the Big town to get it. Nothing around here carried it. We were also able to get our hands on the toasted sesame seed oil! It wasn’t that costly to get but we had to settle for gochujang in sauce form instead of the paste that the show recommended. If all goes well, we will just order it online and have it as a pantry staple. Did I mention that we bought a “Reese’s Ice Cream Cake” for desert?

The rice…

…has something going in it that I’m not fond of; sunny side eggs. It gets mixed up with all the other ingredients but I’m not a runny yoke kind of gal! Regardless, it looks good enough to overlook the runny yoke and give the dish a try. I hope I don’t go hungry on Sunday!

There are sautéed carrots, shiitake mushrooms and spinach in the dish as well, of which I like. There is also a special sauce and sauté oil that is used in the dish. I will certainly post again on Sunday to show the results of our attempt at the dishes they created.

Dropped the ball on the update, the chicken wings were delicious! The rice was not the favorite dish. We chowed down tho.
