Not Equivocal

Time laps bring unique not equivocal

Our pets have all been unique and we have been lucky enough to have them. One particular pet, Ralph, was a heart wrencher. It began when I was at work one night and heard a dog barking, then the next night, then every night for several months. Come to find out there was a “Paws and Claws” program going on where they brought these animals in for comfort and support. This particular dog was not happy to be a part of the program.

One night the dog got loose. My protector instincts kicked in and I attempted to keep him from getting hit in the road. Before all was said and done the dog just jumped into my car through the driver side window, that was already down. Back to his lock-up he went. Well behaved. Gentle spirit. After that I started inquiring about him. Then I began fostering the dog. But it didn’t take long before he won our hearts. I used to say he had a face only a mother could love.

My heart broken

He brought consistent joy to us through all of his shenanigans. I posted about him on both of my sites. I loved him for his quirkiness. Then came the loss of Ralph. We lost him and our other dog Dazy within months of each other. Both at ripe old ages. Dazy was anti-social having rescued her from an abusive home with unruly children. But both dogs made a good team despite the bickering.

It was over two years before we sought out another pet companion The loss was too much. The heart did not bounce back as easily with these two. But none the less…

Enter Gunner

We saw Gunner on Facebook. The current caretakers were not the original caretaker. That man had gotten sick and thought that he would be able to care for him at a later date. Sadly, that was not the case. After several months they began looking for a new home for Gunner.

The first time we met him, Gunner nibbled my fingers. I didn’t move and acted like it didn’t faze me. He was well minded right off the bat. It didn’t take long for the attachment to occur. Within days we were showing him his new home. I even announced him on Facebook!

I’ll never forget that day

No sooner did he get out of the car he ran around our property like his butt was on fire. We laughed so hard over that nut. From day one he has never ventured from our property – as in to run off. He travels with us everywhere we go, just about (usually weather related).

Gunner has had some incredible firsts with us. We introduced him to water, but he doesn’t know what to think about waves. We fed him ice cream, big mistake. Feeding our pets people food is something we said we would never do again, oh well. It took our cats a little bit to get used to him but before long the bond was created. But he chases the outside cats.

Love unfolding again

We have been very blessed with all our pets. All have brought us joy and unique qualities of their own. And now we have another who has the potential to rip our hearts out again. Not equivocal, but still special.
